Scientific Director, High Voltage Direct Current Power Transmission Research Institute (NIIPT), Russia

1955 – Master Degree in Electrical Engineering, Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute “Lenin’”; 1965 – PhD (Technical Sciences); 1988 – Doctor of Science. Dr. Koshcheev is a member of Academic Boards of St. Petersburg State Technical University and NIIPT, member of International Energy Academy and St. Petersburg Engineering Academy.

Dr. Koshcheev joined NIIPT in 1955. In 1960-70s he was directly involved as a participant and a leader in scientific research focusing on creation and development of energy systems of the North-West, Siberia, Urals, Middle Asia, the Unified Energy System of the USSR and its interconnections with power systems of the Warsaw Pact countries. In 1980-90s he supervised projects of high voltage direct current transmission. Since 2002 – Scientific Director of NIIPT and is in charge of research on power systems stability, security and self-sufficiency, improvement of technical and economic characteristics of the grid and systems using new technical decisions mostly in the sphere of direct current transmission and improvement of FACTS manageability. Dr. Koshcheev published over 140 scientific articles including those in co-authorship. He is an author of 40 inventions.

Dr. Koshcheev was a member of Working Group 2 “System Dynamics” of the project “Feasibility study: Synchronous Interconnection of the IPS/UPS with the UCTE”.
